Chloraxid 5.25% Sodium Hypochlorite Root Canal Irrigant – 5 x 200ml (1kg)

Chloraxid 5.25% by Cerkamed is a 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) solution for root canal rinsing. It is used during mechanical canal preparation to remove dead pulp remnants and organic debris, and to clean the canal and remove the smear layer so that the dentinal tubule orifices are exposed before obturation. This pack contains 5 bottles of 200g (1kg, around 1000ml), a convenient size for practices that irrigate daily.

Composition: sodium hypochlorite (5.25% active chlorine) and purified water compliant with Ph. Eur. For use by dentists only.

Key Features

  • 5.25% active chlorine sodium hypochlorite, a standard irrigant concentration for root canal treatment
  • Lytic effect on dead and vital tissue, dissolving the organic part of the smear layer in the main canal and in lateral canals the instruments cannot reach
  • Removes dead pulp debris during mechanical canal widening
  • Exposes dentinal tubule orifices by cleaning the canal and removing the smear layer before canal filling
  • Recommended for rinsing canals with pulp inflammation
  • Helps prevent tooth discolouration that can occur after filling a canal that was not rinsed
  • Bottle with adapter (per the manufacturer's packaging), so the liquid can be drawn straight into a luer-lock syringe, reducing spillage and chlorine evaporation
  • Included colour-coded, labelled syringes from Cerkamed for easy product identification and safer application
  • Made by Cerkamed (Poland), a specialist endodontic manufacturer

How to Use Chloraxid 5.25%

  1. Open the pulp cavity and remove the contents to expose the root canal orifices (picture 1).
  2. Rinse initially with sodium hypochlorite (picture 2).
  3. Remove the inflamed pulp from the root canal (picture 3).
  4. Rinse copiously with sodium hypochlorite while preparing the canal mechanically, introducing the liquid with a syringe and a blunt-ended needle with a side port (picture 4).
  5. Aspirate the liquid together with the canal contents using an endo aspirator (picture 5).

Sodium hypochlorite is inactivated immediately on contact with organic matter. As its concentration falls, the rinsing time and volume need to increase to compensate; the manufacturer suggests around 10ml per canal.

Chloraxid use step 1: open the pulp cavity and expose canal orifices Chloraxid use step 2: initial rinse with sodium hypochlorite Chloraxid use step 3: remove the inflamed pulp Chloraxid use step 4: irrigate with a side-port needle during preparation Chloraxid use step 5: aspirate liquid and canal contents with an endo aspirator

Using the Bottle Adapter

  1. Unscrew the bottle cap and screw the adapter onto the bottle.
  2. Unscrew the adapter's blue cap, screw a luer-lock syringe into the adapter opening, turn the bottle upside down and draw the liquid into the syringe. Return the bottle upright before unscrewing the filled syringe.
  3. After each use, close the adapter opening with the blue plug.
  4. For storage, remove the adapter and close the bottle tightly with its original cap.

The adapter should only be fitted during treatment, and only to the bottle it was supplied with. The syringe dispenser is not designed for storing liquid or for drawing fluid out of the root canal.

Easy Identification and Safe Application

Cerkamed offers sets of labelled, colour-coded syringes and dispensers to use with its irrigants. The colour of the syringe label matches the product label, which speeds up identification and reduces the risk of picking up the wrong solution. The dispensers have a rubber ring on the plunger for smooth, controlled movement and a luer-lock thread for screwing on an endodontic needle, which helps prevent accidental spillage. All needle types available on the market can be used with them.

Important Compatibility and Safety Information

  • Do not use immediately before or after citric acid or EDTA, as these neutralise sodium hypochlorite
  • Do not use immediately before or after chlorhexidine digluconate, as a brown precipitate forms. Flush with purified water between irrigants
  • Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to sodium hypochlorite
  • Avoid a strong jet of fluid. Excess pressure can force sodium hypochlorite into the periapical tissues, causing pain, inflammation or swelling
  • Take special care when applying it into perforations; sodium hypochlorite can weaken root dentine and has cytotoxic potential
  • Use a rubber dam, disposable gloves, safety goggles or visor and protective clothing when handling
  • In case of skin or eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; drink plenty of water and seek medical advice
  • Keep out of reach of children

Storage

  • Store sealed in the original packaging, upright, protected from sunlight, at 2–8°C (in a refrigerator)
  • The expiry date printed on the container does not change after opening, provided the container is closed securely after each use
  • If unused product is to be stored, remove the adapter and close the bottle tightly with the original cap

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chloraxid 5.25% used for?
Chloraxid 5.25% is a sodium hypochlorite solution for rinsing root canals during endodontic treatment. It removes dead pulp debris during mechanical preparation, and cleans the canal and removes the smear layer before obturation.
What concentration is Chloraxid?

How should sodium hypochlorite be delivered into the canal?
Use a syringe with a blunt-ended needle with a side port, delivering the liquid gently without a strong jet of fluid, as excess pressure can push it into the periapical tissues.
How much Chloraxid should be used per canal?
