Laser Air Quality Monitor with WiFi – PM1.0, PM2.5, PM10, CO2, TVOC and HCHO Detector
This high-accuracy laser indoor air quality monitor gives real-time readings of airborne particles from PM1.0 to PM10, together with CO2, TVOC, formaldehyde (HCHO), temperature and humidity, on a clear LCD screen. It is particularly useful in dental surgeries, where it helps you monitor the aerosol particles that build up during aerosol-generating procedures (AGPs), and show patients that the air in the room is being monitored. However, it is also very useful in any environment where air quality may need to be monitored or could be detrimental to human health, such as offices, classrooms, workshops and homes. It may also help to investigate the source of allergies or unwell feelings in homes with suspected mould, by tracking particle levels, humidity and TVOC over time. Please note that it cannot identify mould itself.
Clearance item – brand new, now 70% off the RRP. Supplied with a micro-USB cable and a 1-month warranty.
Why Monitor Airborne Particles in a Dental Surgery?
Aerosol-generating dental procedures release fine droplets and particles into the air, and airborne microorganisms, including viruses, can attach to and travel on these particles. The monitor does not detect viruses or bacteria themselves, but its laser sensor counts the airborne particles they can be carried on, from PM1.0 to PM10. Watching these readings rise during a procedure and fall back towards normal afterwards gives you a practical, real-time indication of how much aerosol is present in the room and how quickly it is clearing, which is why particle monitoring became widely used in dental surgeries during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tested in a university-funded study during the COVID-19 pandemic. In that study, this unit was compared with a nano particle counter providing live data from 4nm to 10 microns. Its readings were closely in step with the Dakati nano particle readings, with only +/- 2% variation.

WiFi note: although this is a WiFi unit designed to work with an app, we were not able to get it connected at our office, so we cannot guarantee that the app connection will work in every setup. All readings are shown on the monitor's own LCD screen, whether or not you connect it to the app.
Using an Air Quality Monitor in a Dental Surgery
- Watch particle levels around aerosol-generating procedures as PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 rise and then fall back towards normal
- Support fallow time decisions with live readings alongside your practice's infection control protocol
- Keep an eye on CO2, which rises in poorly ventilated rooms
- Track TVOC and formaldehyde from cleaning products, disinfectants and materials
- Reassure patients by showing them that the air in the surgery is monitored
Please note: this monitor measures airborne particles and gases. It does not identify or detect viruses or bacteria directly, and it does not replace ventilation, suction or your practice's infection control procedures.
Research Context
Particle counters measuring PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 have been widely used in published dental research to study aerosol generation:
- A study of aerosols created by dental procedures in five primary care surgeries used commercial particle meters and described PM2.5 and PM10 readings as surrogates for the small and large aerosol particles generated during procedures. Read the study
- A clinical study of restorative procedures measured PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 with and without an external high-volume evacuation device, and found PM2.5 and PM10 levels two to three times background during procedures without it. Read the study
Pairs Well With
- VacStation Extra-oral Suction System EOVA – extra-oral suction for aerosol control
- Professional Smoke Extraction and Air Purification System
Who Is the Air Quality Monitor For?
This monitor suits dental practices, clinics and surgeries that want a simple, low-cost way to monitor indoor air quality, particularly around aerosol-generating procedures, and anyone who wants live PM, CO2, TVOC and formaldehyde readings in one compact device.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does this air quality monitor measure?
- It measures airborne particles (PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10), CO2, TVOC, formaldehyde (HCHO), temperature and humidity, and shows an air quality index (AQI) from 0 to 500.
- How does it detect particles?
- It uses laser scattering to count airborne particles, with a built-in fan that draws air in to the sensor. CO2 is detected by infrared (NDIR).
- Can it be used in a dental surgery after aerosol-generating procedures?
- Yes. It is particularly useful for monitoring the airborne particles generated during aerosol-generating procedures, and for helping you manage fallow time alongside your practice's infection control protocol.
- Does it detect viruses?
- Not directly. It detects the airborne particles that viruses and other microorganisms can attach to and travel on, so changing PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 levels give an indication of how much aerosol is in the air and how quickly it is clearing. It cannot identify whether the particles contain viruses or bacteria.
- Has this monitor been tested?
- Yes. This unit was tested in a university-funded study during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was compared with a nano particle counter providing live data from 4nm to 10 microns. Its readings were closely in step with the Dakati nano particle readings, with only about +/- 2% variation.
- Does it have WiFi?
- Yes, it is a WiFi unit designed to connect to your phone through the free Tuya Smart app (iOS and Android). However, we were not able to connect the unit we use in our office, so we cannot guarantee app connectivity. All readings are shown on the monitor's own LCD screen whether or not you connect it to the app.
- Can it help with suspected mould or allergies at home?
- It cannot detect mould itself, but tracking particle levels, humidity and TVOC over time may help you investigate possible causes of poor air quality, such as damp or poorly ventilated rooms.
- What is included in the box?
- The air quality monitor, a micro-USB cable. If a USB charger is also required, we can supply one for £2.50
- How big is it, and how is it powered?
- It measures 145 x 78 x 97.2mm, weighs 225g and has a rechargeable battery (small capacity) charged via USB-C.
- Is it new, and does it have a warranty?
- Yes. It is a brand new clearance item and comes with a 1-month warranty.
