R1 Plus Gutta Percha Cutter and Endo Calibrator – Woodpecker

The R1 Plus is an endo calibrator and gutta-percha cutter that measures and trims gutta-percha (GP) points accurately, using a built-in slider blade, so there is no need for a scalpel or scissors. It has 18 trimming and diameter-measuring holes with an accuracy of 0.01mm, suitable for gutta-percha points on the market, plus a 30mm ruler. It lets you check the real diameter of a GP point and cut it to the size you need, which is especially useful for fitting master cones in wider canals and non-standard cones, including bioceramic GP points.

Key Features

  • 18 measuring and trimming holes with an accuracy of 0.01mm, for gutta-percha points on the market
  • Built-in slider blade for clean, controlled cutting of GP points, with no scalpel or scissors
  • Anti-rust, double-sided cutting blade for smooth cutting, sliding forward or backward
  • 30mm ruler for measuring up to 30mm
  • Laser-marked scales that stay durable and fade-resistant
  • Aluminium alloy body, laser cut to hold precise dimensions, light and rust-free
  • Fully autoclavable at 134°C, built to withstand repeated sterilisation cycles
  • Matte black finish
  • Made by Woodpecker (Guilin Woodpecker Medical Instrument Co., Ltd.)

Why Use a GP Calibrator?

The tip size printed on a gutta-percha point is a nominal figure, and real points can differ slightly from it. Checking the point in a calibrated hole takes the guesswork out of matching the master cone to the master apical file. Because most gutta-percha points are tapered, trimming a small amount from the tip increases the tip diameter predictably: for example, a 25/.04 point has a 0.25mm tip, and trimming 1mm from the end gives a tip of roughly 0.29mm. The R1 Plus lets you do this precisely and repeatably, and it helps you simplify your GP stock, since non-standard and custom cone sizes can be created from one box of points.

How to Use the R1 Plus

  1. Select the gutta-percha point to be checked or trimmed.
  2. Insert the tip of the point into the hole that corresponds to the diameter you need, until it stops.
  3. Slide the blade across to cut the point cleanly at that position.
  4. Check the point against the master apical file and the canal before obturation, trimming again if required.

Who Is the R1 Plus For?

The R1 Plus suits general dentists and endodontists who want accurate, repeatable gutta-percha cone sizing: checking tip diameters, fitting master cones in wider or irregular canals, and trimming non-standard or bioceramic GP points to size, without resorting to a scalpel or scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the R1 Plus used for?
The R1 Plus is an endo calibrator and gutta-percha cutter. It measures the diameter of gutta-percha points and trims them to size with a slider blade, so no scalpel or scissors are needed.
How accurate is the R1 Plus?
It has 18 trimming and diameter-measuring holes with an accuracy of 0.01mm.
Which gutta-percha points can it be used with?
It is suitable for gutta-percha points on the market, including standard and non-standard GP and bioceramic GP points.
Can the R1 Plus be autoclaved?
Yes. It is made of aluminium alloy and is fully autoclavable at 134°C. Cleaning with water and alcohol is recommended before sterilising.
Is there a ruler?
Yes. It includes a 30mm ruler, and the scales are laser marked so they stay durable and fade-resistant.
Why would I need to trim a gutta-percha point?
Trimming lets you fit a master cone to the master apical file and the canal. Because points are tapered, cutting a small amount from the tip increases the tip diameter predictably, for example a 25/.04 point trimmed by 1mm has a tip of roughly 0.29mm.
Is the R1 Plus made of metal?
Yes. It is made of aluminium alloy, laser cut for precise dimensions, and it is light and rust-free.
Who makes the R1 Plus?
It is made by Woodpecker (Guilin Woodpecker Medical Instrument Co., Ltd.).
