VDW Reciproc® Minima – Conservative Reciprocating Endodontic File System
VDW Reciproc® Minima is a next-generation reciprocating endodontic file system designed around the principles of minimally invasive endodontics and maximum dentin preservation.
Developed as part of the renowned VDW Reciproc® family, Reciproc Minima allows clinicians to perform efficient canal shaping while preserving significantly more radicular dentin compared to traditional larger taper systems.
Key features:
- Slim and agile - the ideal choice for narrow and challenging canals
- Average taper along the file: R20: 3.6% (MFD: 0.77mm); R25: 3.3%; R35: 2.6%; R45: 2.0%
- File design: Non-cutting tip; S-shaped cross-section; Radiopaque calibration rings for good visibility; 9.5 mm short handle
- Blue heat treatment
- No initial glidepath and scouting - designed for one file endo
- Time saving
Why Choose Reciproc® Minima?
Traditional reciprocating systems often prioritize aggressive shaping and rapid dentin removal. Reciproc® Minima takes a different approach by focusing on conservative canal enlargement while maintaining the advantages of reciprocating instrumentation.
- Conservative shaping philosophy
- Reduced dentin removal
- Excellent flexibility in curved canals
- Efficient debris removal
- Reduced procedural stress
- Excellent compatibility with bioceramic sealers
- Single-file reciprocating workflow
The smaller final preparation geometry makes Reciproc Minima particularly attractive for modern endodontic protocols focused on preserving long-term tooth strength.
Reciproc® Minima vs Reciproc® Blue – Which System Should You Use?
Both Reciproc® Minima and Reciproc® Blue use the proven VDW reciprocating motion concept. However, they are designed for different clinical philosophies.
Reciproc® Blue is optimized for broader shaping and versatility in a wide range of clinical situations, while Reciproc® Minima prioritizes conservative shaping and maximum dentin preservation.

Reciproc® Minima shaping files technique
VDW Reciproc Minima is the ideal choice for narrow and challenging canals. The procedure should start with instrument size R20. In cases of wider canal anatomy, the selection of the initial instrument size is at the clinicians discretion.
Step 1: Review different radiographs or CBCT images (if required), to assess the canal anatomy, width, and curvature, and estimate length.
Step 2: Prepare an adequate access cavity and place NaOCI or EDTA gel (if the canals are narrow/calcified) in it.
Step 3: Select R20 and set the Stopper at 2/3 of the estimated length.
Step 4: Introduce R20 into the access cavity. Start the motor when the instrument is at the canal orifice. Move the instrument in a slow in-and-out pecking motion. The amplitude of each peck must not exceed 3 mm. Only very light pressure shall be applied; never force the instrument down the canal. After 3 pecks, remove, clean and inspect R20.
Step 5: Irrigate the canal and confirm patency with an ISO size 010 or 008 hand Instrument (taken to 1-2 mm beyond reached length).
Step 6: Repeat Steps #4 and 5 until R20 reaches 2/3 of the canal. Remove the instrument.
Step 7: When working with an integrated apex locator, repeat Steps #4 and 5 until R20 reaches working length. Otherwise, determine working length with a 010 or 008 hand instrument and a tabletop apex locator until R20 reaches working length. Reconfirm working length electronically with R20.
Step 8: If R20 stops progressing, do not force the instrument; remove it from the canal. A glide path should be created (e.g. with R-Pilot instrument).
Step 9: If required, apical preparation with a larger ISO-size Reciproc Minima can be done. Select the appropriate instrument size for the canal.
Step 10: Always proceed with 3D disinfection protocols.
Step 11: Dry the canal with dedicated absorbent paper points before obturation with dedicated gutta-percha points and sealer.
Motor Settings
VDW Reciproc® Minima files use the same reciprocating motion principles as the VDW Reciproc and Reciproc Blue systems.
For optimal performance, use the pre-set RECIPROC ALL program available on compatible endodontic motors whenever possible.
Recommended reciprocation settings:
- Speed: 300 RPM
- Reverse angle: 150°
- Forward angle: 30°

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Reciproc® Minima compatible with Reciproc® motors?
Yes. Reciproc Minima uses standard VDW reciprocating motion parameters and is compatible with motors featuring the RECIPROC ALL program.
Can Reciproc® Minima be used with bioceramic sealers?
Yes. The conservative shaping philosophy makes the system particularly suitable for bioceramic single cone obturation techniques.
What is the advantage of conservative shaping?
Preserving more dentin may improve long-term tooth strength and reduce structural weakening.
Should I choose Reciproc® Blue or Reciproc® Minima?
Reciproc® Blue is ideal for routine daily shaping, while Reciproc® Minima is optimized for conservative shaping and difficult anatomy where dentin preservation is especially important.
